About Joshua
Hi I'm Josh! I have a Bachelor's in political science and history, and recently completed a Master's in public administration. For the past six years, I've worked in Washington, DC in government relations. Before that, I taught a variety of subjects at a school in South Africa for a year and tutored students in history and writing. I tutor in the subjects that I enjoyed the most as student, and still enjoy today. I find that even if students don't love a history or government class, or struggle with writing, I can create environments where they enjoy it a little bit more. I have been tutoring for 3+ years now, and recognize that different students require different approaches. The first thing I do when working with a new student is to take time and listen to them and understand what they need. I am thorough in my preparation and flexible in my methods. I only tutor in subjects that I have significant knowledge and experience with. I will always be honest and encouraging with a student, and build out a learning plan that will help them meet their goals. I have tutored students ages 12-19, with a focus mostly on high school students. If it's in my subject areas, I can find a way to get it done. Whether its an AP exam, writing an essay, or anything else, I have a number of useful methods that can work with a given student. I am responsive, open, and deeply committed to helping students maximize their potential and experience.
