About Bonnie

We are not a lesson "factory". We do not have a lot of students and tailor lessons to each student, from beginner to show prep. Have taught hunter and western lessons at the college level (as well as many 1000s of community private and group lessons) for 20 years, done numerous clinics, judge horse shows, train horses and adjunct in Equestrian Sceince at William Woods University.

I love to teach people to ride or to become better riders, whether they just want to ride for fun or become top show riders.

Have always loved it.  Started teaching the neighbor kids and other 4-H kids when I was a teen and then went to college and just kept going.

Bachelor of Sceince in Equestrian Sceince

25 years of teching expereince, 20 at the college level (William Woods Univerity and Arkansas State University)

Talk about their goals and their background.  Depending on background we will go through grooming, tacking mounting etc either from the beginning or just to be sure the student is comfortable with "my way".

Beginner leadliners to mature adults riding for the first time or getting back to riding.  Summer camp riding instructor. College equestrians, show prep for private clients.

Check their back ground.  Do they have any formal training or did they just have horses and decided to try giving lessons.

Do they have a release form?

Do they require helmets for beginners, anyone under 18 or anyone jumping and encourage them for all riders.

Are their lesson horses safe (no horse will ever be completely safe but some are certianly safer than others)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is my level of fitness?  Am I a marathon runner or do I ride a desk in my professional life.

How cooredinated am I?

How do I handle extreme temps, smells, bugs?

Do I understand that horseback riding is a physical activity and that it will take time for my muscles (as well as my brain) to adjust.  That time gets longer the older a student is when they begin.

So I have any perevious injuries which my limit my range of motion (this is not a reason to ride but something that should be mentioned to your instructor).
