About Alyssa
Hello! My name is Alyssa Smeenge! I love to work with students to help them achieve their best! I am a recent graduate of Judson University with an elementary education degree with endorsements in ESL and special education. I have worked with students of all ages in the classroom and in tutoring. I have experience working as a public-school special education teacher as well as 3+ years' experience tutoring multiple grades in reading, math, and science! I am very motivated to help the students I work with gain an understanding of the material we are working on! I am patient and compassionate when faced with frustration with the concepts and take a hands-on approach when applicable to teaching different concepts in a new way! I am trained in the first few books of the Wilson Reading Systems program, which is an intensive reading program that covers phonics and sounds to building words and connecting with the English language on multiple levels. It is a program that was designed for students with dyslexia but can be used for any and all readers who need a bit more support! My ultimate goal when working with students is to bring their confidence in themselves up as well as their grades. When a student feels confident in what they have learned, it can reduce the stress they face with that subject.
