About Neajah
I am currently an Advocate for Foster youth and an Art Major. I am also a writer with a passion for teaching children to read. My love for writing and literature started at the age of 10 through bedtime stories and children's books; then, it blossomed once I attended Oakland School for the Arts, Literary Department. I could perform as a poet there and publish my first book at 18. My tutoring journey started due to my history with the foster care system and my love for helping children do their homework and learn after school at the Boys and Girls Club in Oakland. Growing up, I found solace and escape in words and books. This experience not only fostered my love for the English language but also made me realize the power words have in shaping our worlds and perspectives. I saw firsthand how a lack of support at home can affect a child's education, particularly my sister's. Through tutoring, I aim to provide the support and guidance I wish my sister and I had received. This mission fuels my dedication to helping every child I tutor unlock their potential through the power of reading.
