About Jake
I’m a high school senior who is heavily involved in a college credit program and have a solid background in various levels of math courses. I’m a mechanical engineering major, and I’d be more than happy to help others with their math courses. This is my first time offering tutoring as a service, so I’d be grateful to receive feedback on how I can improve sessions to be the best teacher I can be in order to help people. I live in North Ridgeville and can absolutely meet up with a student if they are in the surrounding area, I’m plenty open to whichever method works best for you :)
This is my first time but I have had several friends and previous teachers tell me that I’d be a great tutor given how I’ve helped them and other students on more than a few occasions.
I consistently took high level math courses a year ahead of my grade level all throughout high school in a successful manner. The highest level of math I completed was college algebra, although I am currently enrolled in a pre calculus class in order to prep myself for my calculus heavy major come fall. I have more than a fair understanding of typical math courses in both the high school and middle school level which I will utilize to help out students.

Like I mentioned in my profile, tutoring is new to me. The first step I would take would definitely be to evaluate where a student is at in their level of understanding in their math course. From there I’d look to help the student build up their abilities in their weaker areas by giving more thorough explanations than they previously received and would suggest material to work on to continue this improvement.

I think the best thing that you can do is look for someone that you can relate to, as this will make learning a lot easier for the student given that their tutor can put things in terms that other tutors may not be able to.
I recently received the scholar athlete award for football this past fall, which was a huge honor for me.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They should absolutely search for their specific weak spots before talking to a prospective tutor and ask themselves how badly they wish to improve their current understanding of a subject and how hard they are willing to work to achieve their goal.

Details
I’m looking for roughly $20/hr since I am new to this, but I think I can be flexible with this depending on situations. Obviously if I am traveling a larger distance, I’ll need to charge a bit more to cover gas costs.
