About Miranda
I was a valedictorian student in high school and have completed my general education for my degrees at UCSD. I have taught a class of 30 students at UCSD in an introductory biology course as an Instructional Apprentice. I have also helped my younger sibling and cousins and with elementary math so I would be more than comfortable teaching K-12 students!
Math:
I was in advanced math from middle school to high school and received A's in all of my math courses (including AP Calc BC). I have completed college level statistics, calculus 1, precalculus, and algebra. I also passed the Calc BC AP test with a 4 so I would be able to help prep students for the test.
Sciences:
I am double majoring in Marine Biology and Ecology, Behavioral, and Evolutionary Biology. I have finished all of the general education for this major including the Biology level Physics series, Intro Biology Series, General Chemistry, and College Writing. I would be comfortable teaching any of these subjects to students.
Piano Lessons:
I have also played piano since I was about 5 and received lessons for about seven years. I can read sheet music and mostly play classical although I am familiar with blues and modern music. I have taught many of my friends the basics about reading sheet music and how to memorize songs so I would be more than comfortable to teach that to students.
I've always been happy to help out my friends with school and continued doing so in college as an IA. While I don't necessarily believe I will be a teacher when I graduate I do enjoy teaching students new things!
I spent ten weeks teaching college students in an introductory biology course as an Instructional Apprentice. I worked closely with the professor from the course and learned many helpful tips from him. I also held office hours where students could come get one on one help from me.
I also have unofficial experience helping my friends and younger cousins and siblings with school in all subjects.

I like to get to know the student and learn where their struggle areas are. Generally I like to have access to their textbook and learning materials so I know what they need to understand and where they need clarification. I find that by working through homework problems I can find where they are confused.
I have worked with kids in the college level all the way to elementary school level.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Find the first area you are confused in. With math especially, each lesson is built off of the last. While the current homework problems may be confusing it is important to go back to the last lessons you understood so you can see what area is responsible for the lack of understanding.
