About Genesis
I am a student currently, and I have had bad experiences with tutors before. I strive to learn from those bad experiences and create good experiences and growth for my students.
The joy when a student finally grasps a topic.
I started tutoring kids of family friends. Beyond that, I got really interested in teaching after one of my teachers had to go on maternity leave. The substitutes did not really know the material, so I would teach myself the material the night before class and would go around the classroom helping students with the lesson.
I am currently an engineering student attending the University of Virginia. Prior to attending college, I attended the Governor's School at Innovation Park where I was in the physics course. I took several advanced college classes so that I was completely done with three levels of calculus and linear algebra, as well as algebra and calculus based physics 1 and 2 by the time I graduated. I graduated suma cum laude and ranked 10 out of 700 people in my class. As shown in my photos, I have participated in many programs, including some from MIT and NASA, where I had to participate in courses, research, and presentations on topics on top of my normal school work. Due to this, I am familiar with time management and hard work. During school, I tutored students mainly in math, but I also have experience teaching chemistry to several students at once.

To start out, I usually let the student explain to me the content to the best of their abilities. This not only lets me know where they are, but it helps them learn by making them explain the content as if they had to teach it themselves. Also, it lets me know their process of understanding and which method is best to teach them with. Each student is different, so the process really varies depending on this initial interaction. It is best to make sure the environment feels safe and nonjudgemental so that the student can air their questions freely and won't just give up immediately out of frustration.
Middle and high school students
Besides someone you can understand, choose someone you feel comfortable with! If you don't feel comfortable, then you cannot express your concerns or truly learn in that situation.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
To be honest, I'm not going to be too strict on questions. If you are confused, and thinking it through thoroughly (or googling it) does nothing to ease your confusion, then ask away! I am definitely one to ask for clarification constantly, so if it helps then don't feel worried to reach out.
