About Erin
4 Principles of Strategies 4 Success
1. Foundations
· Starting with the basics is key, so we spend time understanding what we are learning, not just memorizing concepts.
· Foundational reading and mathematics skills are imperative for success later on.
· If students do not understand basics, but just memorize rules, many times this creates gaps in their education which widen and expand later in their academic careers.
2. Organization
· This does not apply just to organizing materials.
· We teach essential study skills, such as having an agenda when studying, understanding the learning objective
· Time management, especially when working on a problem or large project.
· Ready to learn, including being prompt and prepared for each session
3. Determination
· As students find success, they learn to be more determined
· We encourage curiosity, questioning
· Developing a growth mindset. How can we change our words to reflect a positive learning attitude – it matters!
4. Motivation
· Our fourth and “last” strategy because if the first three strategies are done well, this will follow.
· Promote intrinsic motivation for all of our students
· Help them come to understand what success looks like for them and to achieve their goals.
· Celebrate big and small wins
