About Ryan
NWAM stands for Never Waste A Move, that is my motto. I stand out because I honestly haven't always loved math. While I do believe that most things you get out of life is what you put into it, I also believe that you need good mentors and peers to help you along. it wasn't until I had to take that one math class for me degree that I found out what this math thing was all about and I give most of the credit to my awesome teacher and the rest is history.
I have an engineering degree and accounting degree and have worked in both industries. So I have applied math experience. The last two years though I have worked in a middle school classroom as a Math teacher and love it! I feel like the middle school year is where you make or break your opinion of math. But here's the thing, there is no such thing as a math person or not, we are all just people.
I am a licenced math teacher (currently in Utah, but will be in Virginia soon... darn paperwork) with a Math endorsement. In the two years I took our Mathcounts competitive team from never placing in school history, to a 3rd place finish in our region.
So how do I do it. I make math fun and relatable, if it can be relatable. Some math, especially early level math is hard to make real world connections because it just a building block for more advanced math, so I just be honest with my students. I expect critical thinking and hard work and they will get the same from me. Let's learn together.
It's the ah ha moments that drive me. When students figure it out or when they begin to remember the concepts.
I have a Bachelors Degree
Teaching License
Math 2 Endorsement (6-12)
Currently working on Master in Math Education

I know time is important and we need to get right to work, but it's important that they are comfortable with me. Math is already stressful without having to deal with a stranger.
I ask a lot of questions. It's important to know what the student already knows and help them discover they know more than they think. It's a real confidence booster.
Then I'll help fill in the gaps with instruction. I will never give them the answers, they must do that for themselves and I will help them make those discoveries for themselves.
I actually own a doc camera that lets me show them some example problems. We can also use whiteboard programs like Bitpaper or whiteboardfox. Both are free and allow me to see them work through the problems live. It's pretty cool.
I primarily work with middle school aged students, but have taught all ages.

Its great 😁👍🎉.
He was a good teacher tried to teach everyone Even when they didn’t care He did his job well I think highly of him as a teacher a mentor and a person
I don't know how he did it but Mr. Ferree found a way to make his class fun and productive I had more fun than I have ever in any class ever and I always had all my work done I loved his class.
Having you as a teacher was really fun. The summit learning was confusing, and when I didn't I understand something you explained it to me. You made math class fun. And when we would have fun times like when you played royce's guitar. Having you as a teacher was very fun and I'm gonna miss you a lot. We all wish you weren't leaving but you gotta do what you gotta do!
The method of teaching was very engaging and interesting, it was hard to lose focus. The lessons had both serious and entertaining activities to help us learn. Tutor was supportive, present, and engaged in teaching.
The teacher was very engaging. If I didn't understand things he would explain then using different examples. The teacher also gave many examples to help with notes to study. I enjoyed how calm the teacher was, it made me feel less stressed.
Mr.Ferree is an excellent teacher, I had him his first year of teaching my grade and he handled middle schoolers fairly well. He worked with us a little different from the other teachers, then again every teacher has a different style. He works with you and helps the class and individuals, he is fairly organized and really loves helping and teaching people. He also has a love for the students and a different approach on how he does teach, he’ll also change his teaching style or the way he says things to help a student through a ruff patch of learning if you will. Not only change it for you but also give you tips, different angles to go at the situation. He really was a good teacher for me, he helped me when I was stuck or didn’t understand, he also loves learning new things with you, and from you and works both ways and I loved the way he went about things. He also worked with the other teachers well, he’s a decent communicator I mean no ones perfect but he works with everyone. He also makes things fun and easier to learn. It’s hard to learn something new no matter what but he helps with the situation as best he can. He cares about the students and wants to help in any way, support in any way, and teach in any way to help you.
The style and concepts he uses to teach and help kids understand what we’re doing, is great I have never had a problem and if I did I just asked and he would explain things in great detail to help me understand. Be he also challenges us to do things without help to see how far we can get on our own after! And he’s super easy to talk to and ask questions to!
It's an awesome way to get the help that you need and the tutors are amazing especially Mr. Ferree.
Ferree was Really fun and helped students understand math.
I really liked this teacher, he doubled my knowledge in math and we i had fun while learning
it was explanatory
Mr. Ferree is the best teacher I have ever had. I had never connected with a teacher like I did with him when he taught me. He is the most lovable and helpful guy and he deserves all the praise he can get. No teacher has ever made me feel more confident in my classes than Mr. Ferree. I miss being in his class every day and I miss the smile that he put on my face when he would teach me. I count myself lucky that I was one of his students.
It was easier than regular basic math
I was going through some personal stuff, and my tutor was one of the best I have ever had. They did what no one else did. They believed in me
