About Delanie
Tutoring is a learning experience for both of us. While my main goal is to help the student progress and feel more confident, tutoring also provides me with the ability to learn about what strategies do and don't work. I want the experience to be beneficial for both of us.
Throughout my time in school, I had the privilege to have teachers who really cared about not just my learning, but about me as a whole. I want to be able to provide that experience for people myself.
I began tutoring in high school during my free periods. My guidance counselor recommended me to students who reached out for help.
I am a mathematics major and am also planning on persuing teaching. I have tutored in the past and have also student taught an 8th grade mathematics class for a semester.

Depending on what they are looking for, I most likely will initially start with an assessment of what they already know and what they need more assistance with. I am willing to help with specific assignments and/or projects and work through them with the student or just focus in on specific subject areas that they need help with and bring my own problems/methods to the table. Ideally, I'll be able to assess the students as we progress unless it is a short time they need tutoring
I've worked with students from middle school to high school level, some with learning disabilities, and am willing to work with more ages.
I would say to first look for someone you are going to be comfortable with. If you're not comfortable with someone closer in age to you and would prefer someone older than that's important. If you're looking for a full time teacher vs a student, that is also something to specify. While it's necessary to make sure the tutor you choose can help with the right subject areas, it's more important to have someone that you feel comfortable with even if they can't technically give as much help as those with different experience levels.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think that students should be prepared with as many specifics as possible, but also should not hesitate to talk to teachers about their needs at any point. Knowing the areas you specifically need further help with can help make it easier to accommodate, but simply letting them know they're struggling is enough to work with them and figure out the right methods to help.
