About Alana
My Approach as a Tutor and Knowledge Sharing Methodology
Teaching Method and Techniques:
Rooted in my academic background in Cell & Molecular Biology and Anthropology at Tulane University, my teaching methodology revolves around a blend of theory and real-world applications. I believe in facilitating an environment where students feel comfortable expressing their doubts. By using a combination of discussion-based teaching and hands-on problem-solving techniques, I encourage active participation, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
Recap of Previous Lesson: Review main points and address any lingering questions.
Introduction of New Topic: Presenting concepts in a structured manner, often beginning with a real-world example or analogy to anchor understanding.
Interactive Discussion: Engage students in discussions, prompting them to think critically.
Hands-on Exercises: Work through problems together, especially for subjects like biology, math, and statistics.
Feedback and Clarification: Address any doubts or misconceptions.
Homework/Assignment: Assign relevant tasks that reinforce the day's learning.
Summary: Conclude with a recap and what to expect in the next lesson.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:
While Biology remains my forte, my diverse academic pursuits allow me to provide holistic assistance, spanning from science to humanities. Having tutored both biology and history, I bring an interdisciplinary approach to tutoring, drawing connections between subjects. This versatility extends to math, statistics, and writing/English, providing students a one-stop solution for multiple academic needs. Moreover, my genuine passion for both learning and teaching ensures that every session is engaging and tailored to each student's individual needs.
Who the Lessons Are For:
My tutoring services cater to a range of students:
-Those pursuing degrees or coursework in Biology, basic math, statistics, writing, or related disciplines.
-High school to undergraduate level students requiring assistance in biology, math, statistics, and English/writing.
-Individuals keen on interdisciplinary learning, given my unique combination of expertise in both science and humanities.
In essence, my approach as a tutor is anchored in genuine passion, adaptability, and a commitment to making complex concepts accessible and engaging for all my students.
