About Nicholas
My name is Nicholas McLaughlin, I am a current graduate student in mechanical engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML). I completed my undergraduate in mechanical engineering at UML in three years and am an aspiring engineering entrepreneur.
I have worked in various leadership positions throughout my life, so I have developed a strong affinity to explain, aid, and teach. Please feel free to reach out if you need any help with mechanical engineering, math, physics, or engineering in general.
I love engineering. I love the process of creating something wholly new to solve a unique problem. I think this way of thinking is incredibly useful for everyone and I want to help disseminate the information I have.
In college, I spent a lot of time working very hard to be the best student I can be. When I can use my efforts to make other people's journeys easier, I feel extraordinarily fulfilled.
My parents are both teachers, so I always had an affinity for helping others learn. Throughout my life, I have taken on various leadership positions requiring me to instruct, lead, and help others develop.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Business Administration for Engineers from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and am currently a Masters Student in Mechanical Engineering at this same university.

First, I try to get to know the student. I want to know who they are, what they do, and how I can best relate and connect with them.
Then I will inquire about their difficulties with the subject matter and start to identify which areas will need development.
I quickly develop a strategy on how to help the student (i.e., which areas should be focused on, what needs reinforcement, etc.) and proceed to implement the plan.
High school students and undergraduate students in engineering or business.
Make sure to find someone that can answer your questions and can understand what you need. There are a lot of tutors I've dealt with that take a long time to either answer a simple question or understand what the difficulty is.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Try to identify what the main problem is - this will help to expedite the learning process. If its a problem with comprehension of the physical system, let me know this. I don't want to waste your time going over the math if it's not the problem.
If you can't identify the issue, it's not a problem. We will take a little more time trying to figure it out together.
