About Nick
To date, most of my tutoring experience has been in helping my wife prepare for her college exams (she's going back to school to be a teacher), but it made me realize that I have a gift to share with others in helping them with their math struggles.
In 2015 I graduated from the University of Iowa with a Finance degree, and I currently work as a group insurance consultant in Johnston.
To me, numbers have always been fascinating, and something about getting a math problem correct is very satisfying. Coupling that with the opportunity to positively influence students and help them on a 1-on-1 level makes math tutoring the perfect combination.
As a finance student at Iowa, and as an insurance consultant today, I live and breath numbers. Math has always been my strong suit, but it's also something that I always had to take time to learn, which helps me teach it to others, including most recently my wife, for her college exams.

Getting to know my students on a personal level is step one. I want them to know and trust that I care about them in a greater sense than just whether they can solve math equations. This also is a time to set expectations. There is no sense in paying for a tutor if work isn't being done to improve outside of tutoring sessions.
Finally, based on the curriculum and my assessment of each student, we will begin talking about problems and how to think them through. Sometimes if a student is struggling to comprehend, we will move on and come back to the issue with a fresh mind either later in the session or at another session.
