About JOY
I've been teaching art for the past 12 years and offer individual or group lessons to beginner / advanced students of all ages. Together, we will study color, composition and technique. I am passionate about what I do, and will help you to see art differently! This will help in making you a better artist.
I am willing to travel to you if you have a group that wants to have a wine and painting night with their friends, or if you have a group that wants to meet on a weekly basis.
Visit my website / blog at (concealed information) , like my profile on facebook (Joy Skinner Art) or send me an email, I'd love to hear from you.
I get lost in my work when I'm painting, and teaching it gives me the greatest satisfaction. Art is a LEARNED talent so it's fun to see a student accomplish something they didn't think they could.
I enjoy the people aspect of my job and usually end up learning as much from my students as they learn from me.
The public art gallery in the city I grew up in first asked me to teach in their art institution. This led to many other teaching experiences.
I am a self taught artist with a degree in Adult Education.

I like to start with the basics and then focus on each students individual needs. Together we focus on the strengths to help us improve upon the weaknesses.
Group evening classes are available and the student will complete a different painting in each class.
My youngest student was 12 years old, and the oldest was in their 80's. I have had serious advanced students and have had students that want an evening of wine, comroderie and painting. I am of the belief that we should never quit striving to learn and there is surely lots to learn as an artist, no matter what level you're at.
All students learn differently so I would ask if they have developed lesson plans to accomodate individual needs. I would be looking for an instructor who has a very solid grasp on the basics.
I LOVE going to art festivals.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do the rules of composition mean to you?
Have you ever studied color theory?
You should be able to tell me where you are in this journey. What are the challenges you face? and what are your strengths?

Learning how to create contrast I’m my work by using lights against darks.
Joy covered everything I needed to know about starting out with water colors and I ended up with a beautiful watercolor painting ...
Really enjoyed my classI learned a lot about painting with watercolors when I took a class with Joy.....it was a great experience and I love the picture I painted during that class
In 2005 I took Joy's introductory watercolour painting class in Brandon, Manitoba. Then I had interest and no skills; I was immediately hooked; soon I was using Joy's instruction and encouragement to produce paintings that I would frame to hang in our house. An intermediate class with Joy gave me confidence to learn from other instructors; now I consider myself a serious, amateur artist and my pieces receive local recognition.
Joy’s artwork excels in colours, composition and technique! She’s also an amazing teacher, mentor and art authoritarian.
