About Yah
I’ve been teaching private piano lessons professionally for 12 years with a steady student body of 30-50 students per week, in home, in studio, and distance over Zoom. I have a triple major in Music Theory/Composition, Psychology, and Philosophy from the prestigious Elmhurst University in Illinois with a specialized training in piano pedagogy and music cognition. I have published research in the Journal of Music Psychology and I’ve been teaching yoga and mediation now for 30 years. I combine all of this to create a mindful piano lesson experience for children and adults that builds presence of mind, concentration ability, body awareness, and emotional regulation as well as traditional piano instruction and training in technique, music performance, improvisation, and composition.

My leverage my experience in psychology and mindfulness to determine the level of concentration, attention, span, short term, memory, and awareness of emotion and energy to determine my approach with the student. My approach is to always meet the student where they’re at and to work from there.
