About Barb
All instruments are taught to all ages, online and in-person.
Teaching different instruments to a variety of students including all ages.
Wanted to teach music at an early age so pursued a degree in music education. Early experience included public school bands.
Master of Music Education from Jacob's School of Music, Indiana University in Bloomington. 30 years experience teaching all instruments. Performance groups: Lafayette Symphony (Double Bass), Wabash College Chamber Orchestra (Double Bass), Lafayette Citizens Band and Montgomery County Civic Band (Trumpet), Choir Director at Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Church (10 years).

Determine what level student is: beginning, intermediate, or advanced. Select appropriate method book. Discuss what goals student has and how we will go about achieving them. If student has previously played instrument, have them play a piece they have learned. Hand, seating and or standing positions will be checked for proper stances. Offer friendly suggestions for improvement.
All ages from primary to seniors. Many different personalities. Different nationalities: Spanish, Indian, Polish, Russian (all English-speaking).
Make sure the teacher uses a method book and teaches music reading! A thorough knowledge of music theory is advisable. Meet with the teacher, either online or in person, to assure a good personality mix.
Learning to effectively teach online using several different formats (due to COVID in 2020). Currently doing online and limited in-person lessons.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What instrument to pursue; does the student have time in their daily schedule for practice; does the student own an instrument; what are their goals; select a regular lesson time.
