About Rachel
I have been teaching for over seven years and I take an indvidualized approach to each of my students. I combine a solid foundation of technique and theory related to the music the student is learning along with pieces and songs my students personally want to learn. I realize that everyone has different goals for learning music and know how to lead each one of my students to achieve them.
I love working with individuals of all ages that want to learn to make music. It is exciting to me to introduce others to a world where they can find new methods of self-expression and ways to create. I was fortunate to have so many wonderful teachers growing up and I am grateful for the opportunity to pass on the same love of music that I was given.
I began working with young horn students when I was an undergraduate student, and began teaching neighborhood kids piano once I moved to California. Parents would always hear music coming from our house and started asking for lessons for their kids!
In addition to over 7 years of teaching and coaching music, I have a Bachelor's of Music from The University of Arizona, and a Master's of Music from the Bob Cole Conservatory at California State University, Long Beach.

When working with a new student I usually spend the first lesson talking to them about their musical background and goals. I then introduce the curriculum we will be using. My piano students will begin in the most appropriate level of the Faber and Faber Piano Adventures series, and horn students will be encouraged to purchase certain books and materials based on their current level.
If they have no prior experience on the instrument, I make sure to cover the basics and my goal is for each student to be able to play a simple song before the end of he firs lesson.
I have worked with students of all ages, from 4 or 5 years old to adults. It's never too late to learn!

Details
Piano lessons are $50/hour, and I generally encourage one 30 minute lesson every week.
Horn lessons are $60/hour and I encourage younger students to have one 30 minute lesson every week, while older studnets often benefit from a full hour lesson.
