About Linus

I am always happy to hear a returning student tell me they were thrilled with how quickly they were able to pick up a new skill, regardless of age or prior experience in music.

I am a life long teacher; I currently teach at Long Beach City College, and in the past, Musicians Institute and Cal State University Northridge.

I have a B.A. in Music from Santa Clara University.  I am also currently working on my CA teacher credential at Cal State Long Beach and my CELTA certification for teaching billingual students.

I believe piano lessons can be whatever you wish it to be - if you are in pursuit of a single skill, or a single song, we can achieve the results together. I have learned in a variety of environments myself - from masterclass to group lessons as a child - and I have also taught all ages.  There is nothing you cannot achieve if you put your mind to it.

I mostly work with adult beginners but I have worked with students as young as seven years old.

Work with the teacher that you like, not just one that has the credits.  A musical relationship is just like a friendship, there is communication and dialogue, and keep in mind you are learning to communicate in a new language at the same time.

Every year, I coach a handful of students who are composers and I participate in the Music Teacher's Association of CA (MTAC) Composers Day festival annually.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Primarily, music should be something in between a hobby and a job.  It will take some light committment from you, but it is very akin to beginning Pilates, or trying a new workout.  If you are prepared to give a little, you will get commesurate results.

I can work with your budget, but all I ask is a monthly committment from my students (paid in advance for the current month).  No backing out of lessons the day of!  :)
