About Stephen
I started teaching after Graduating at first just a few students privately and then for a few different Music Schools. Now, I only teach privately.
B.A. In Music (Theory and Compostion) from UMass
M.M. In Theory and Composition from S.U.N.Y. Fredonia.
Suzuki Training with John Homsey and Haruko Kataoka

My emphasis is on performing. Developing the ear. Having good posture and hand position at the instrument. Rhythm, Harmony and Reading. Above all I want the student to have fun making music. There are 3 things that I stress ear training, technique and musicality.
I've had students as young as 3 and as much as 80. When working with very young students it is important that one of the parents come to all the lessons. My goal with all my students is to find a love of music; listening and making it.
Learning to play an instrument is like any other skill. I can't teach you anyrhing. I can guide you and give directions. But it is up to you what you do. Setting a goal and making a routine daily practice schedule are important.

Perfect! I hadn't played the piano in a long time when starting with Steve. He helped me work on my skills from the ground up, and his emphasis on musicality has helped me listen to the instrument rather than just play the notes on the page. I'll definitely be going back when my schedule allows it!
