About Laura
My mission statement: get you to enjoy music while learning.
I choose and adapt songs according to the age, interests, goals, and skills of the students. I also use the songs to teach different musical concepts: intervals, progressions, scales, chords. Every student is different, so I don't use any specific method.
With 20 years of experience, from beginners to advanced, from 3 years to adults.
I have a BFA in Music/ Teaching (piano), Conservatory Superior of Music, Madrid (Spain) and completed the NYVC Voice Teacher Training and Certification (40hr) under the mentorship of Justin Stoney.

I love music and I love to teach it. The best moments on my work are when the students realize that they can play/sing something that they couldn't do before. I love their expressions at that moment.
When I was learning for my piano degree, I had to start teaching little kids in order to pay for my piano lessons.
I discovered that I enjoy teaching music.
I've been teaching music since then.

About the lesson

In the beginning, I want to know the new student: why he wants to play the piano or sing, which objectives or goals he has, the music he likes, his experience...
If he is not a complete beginner, I want to listen to what he knows, playing the piano or singing a song.
From there, we start the lesson.
For piano lessons, I have worked with 3-years kids until adults. No all of the 3-years kids are ready to take piano lessons. And it must be something that they enjoy and want to do. Otherwise, it won't work.
For voice lessons, my experience is with 8-years kids until adults.

Lauren was tremendously helpful in teaching me the practical necessities and techniques in performing vocals on a regular basis. I'd never had formal voice lessons, and while I felt confident performing, I tended to blow my voice out, which limited show lengths. Lauren taught me how to keep up the energy, intensity, and full vocal range, while being able to maintain stamina and intensity throughout a show. Thank you, Lauren!
Laura is a fantastic instructor who takes her time and works thru the keys. If you don't understand something she works with you very patiently. Never in a rush. Great teacher of music.
