About Kate

We're all good at something and we all struggle with something. We often shy away from things that are difficult because they seem too big to tackle. Then again, sometimes we just need someone to help us take the thing that's too big to handle and make it smaller. That's where I want to be of service.

I want to aid students of various ages and grade levels who struggle with their reading and writing skills and get them from confusion to clarity. Reading and writing play too big a part in our everyday lives to avoid, no matter if we're on social media, applying for a job, putting together a book report, or applying for a multi-million dollar grant. If students are having problems with these skills, I want to help make them find a way to manage them.

I have more than 20 years of professional experience and training in writing. I'm a former newspaper reporter who has won awards for her work.

About the lesson

I typically don’t charge for a first session. I usually like to meet with the student and parent, if applicable, to get a better sense of where the student needs help and if the situation is a good fit. I also want to delve further by talking about where the problems are taking place. After that, I prefer to go over old homework, if possible, to go over any problems and discuss what might have caused confusion and how to correct it in the future. I also have exercise worksheets that work on specific skills — vocabulary, reading comprehension, etc.
