About Melissa
I have a Master's degree in Elementary Education. I am working towards completing the Praxis to get licensed. I was the building sub at Spring Glen Elementary School in Hamden Ct the 2020-2021 school year. This year, I was subbing at different schools throughout the Hamden and Cheshire area. Recently, I have been working for Hamden Board of Education as a Homebound Tutor - meaning tutoring those that can not be in school for various reasons from medical to suspended/expelled. There I worked with 5th-11th grade students.

I have worked with students in the classroom and homebound. I work with those who are struggling to grasp a concept or just need extra help in a certain subject. My focus is typically on reading and math help.
The advice I would give a student looking to hire a teacher in my field of expertise is to know what you are looking for in a teacher and make sure that it is someone that you can connect with. Being a longterm substitute teacher, a building sub, and a tutor my kids will always tell you that I work hard to connect with them and make them feel heard.
A 9th grader that I am tutoring now came to me failing many subjects and with bad anxiety. It is now finals and she is passing every subject but History (her choice was to drop it). She has improved her grades significantly and the teachers at her high school have been noticing that.

I do not have a standard pricing system. The minimum I charge if it is by phone or internet is $20 an hour. For in person the minimum is $25 an hour.
