About Tirth
I am a 4th year medical student and a Ph.D. graduate at Rowan-Virtua SOM in Stratford, New Jersey. Before medical school, I studied biology at The College of New Jersey, where I conducted research on the mechanisms underlying antibiotic resistance. During my time at TCNJ, I developed a deep appreciation for the intricate details of biological processes. Genuinely caring about the material rather than merely memorizing it made it easier to learn, which in turn allowed me to apply my knowledge effectively during exams.
Building on this strong foundation, I felt well-prepared to tackle medical school. I thoroughly enjoyed learning foundational concepts in physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, and pathology. During my preclinical years, I organized group study sessions in the living room of my apartment, where each member mastered a topic and then taught it to the others. I found this collaborative approach to be both enjoyable and effective. As a result, I achieved honors in many of my classes and excellent scores on my board exams, including STEP 1 (253), COMLEX 1 (666), STEP 2 (270), and COMLEX 2 (705).
After completing my preclinical years, I took a brief detour to obtain my PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience. During this time, I applied the study skills I developed in medical school to create learning materials, such as an Anki deck and study guides for graduate school coursework, which are still widely used by students today. My time in the lab was also instrumental in sharpening my communication skills as I collaborated with various individuals on multiple projects.
My teaching experience began at the dinner table, where I tutored my younger brother in high school physics, chemistry, and biology. I continued to offer one-on-one tutoring in high school science courses during my undergraduate years. At TCNJ, I served as a peer mentor for the Career and Community Studies program for three years, teaching subjects like math and science to groups of students.
Over the years, I have learned that not everyone learns in the same way. I believe the best qualities in a tutor are patience and adaptability—it is crucial to identify what works best for each individual student. The one constant that I believe benefits all students is a love and enthusiasm for learning.
