About Topaz

Hi, there! My name is Topaz and I'm a certified yoga instructor, wellness coach, and energy healer based out of NYC. I specialize in yoga and energy healing with 200-hr RYT, 25-HR SUP Yoga, and Level 2 reiki healing certifications from the Vinyasa Yoga School in Rishikesh, India, Sup Yoga & fitness in Malta, and the Arati Healing Center in Koh Phangan, Thailand.

An avid traveller, I’ve taught classes and workshops throughout the US, South East Asia, and Europe. Today, you'll find me teaching private clients, corporate groups, and at yoga studios throughout NYC. As an instructor, I aim to relate the practice of yoga to each individual's everyday life- ultimately encouraging yogic principles for today's society.

The inspiration and ideas I received in the East, combined with my Western roots, has given me a unique flare that I’ve been luckily enough to have shared and developed throughout the past few years. I’ve lead workshops, private events, community beach classes, and public classes at yoga studios, resorts, businesses, gyms, and schools to all ages and levels of experience. As a teacher, I strive not for perfection, but for that feeling of surrender and acceptance of ones self through the practice of yoga. I believe in its abilities to inspire and heal and I hope to continue bringing the gift of yoga to as many people as possible. Together we can lighten hearts and free minds, near and far.

I started teaching immediately following my certification. With my background in professional ballet, I grew up assisting younger levels in academies and eventually leading ballet programs for advanced dancers at several local dance studios.  Teaching was introduced to me from a very young age and it was almost second nature to start teaching yoga!

I'm a 200-hr RYT through the International Yoga Alliance as well as a certified Level 2 reiki energy healer. I studied in Rishikesh, India at the Vinyasa Yoga School in Uttarakhand and the Arati Healing Center in Koh Phangan, Thailand. I've studied body movement since my adolesence, where I trained in classical ballet. I went on to pursue it as a career and danced professionally with several ballet companies in California, North Carolina, and New York City. Through the art of ballet, I was introduced to yoga as a form of cross training. I quickly fell in love with the healing properties of yoga and decided to pursue it as a parallel career. I've developed a unique sense of understanding physical movement and alignment through the study of both classical ballet and yoga.

For new students, before booking I’ll send you an online survey to complete. This survey is a  free consultation that will help me to get to know you better and what you’re looking for. The survey will include your experience with yoga, background with physical movement, any past traumas or current injuries, and your goals/intentions for starting or pursuing your yoga journey. I will also give you some background on my own personal qualifications and experience as an instructor and practitioner. From there, I will develop a class that best aligns with your goals. :)

I've had the pleasure of working with all levels and ages of people coming from a variety of different backgrounds. I've taught childrens classes, which require a bit more interaction and a much more active learning approach, then working with adults. I've lead group workshops to foreigners in Thailand and India, where I've navigated language barriers and united diverse backgrounds. I also have experience with disabled and injured students, requiring exstensive modifications and options in order to practice safely and properly. Some of my clients are senior-level practitioners, moving at a more mature pace and others are fitness and weight loss thrillists, that thrive in a more fast-paced approach. Over the past few years, I've found that yoga is a very versitle movement therapy and can be practiced at any age, for any body!

There are a million and one yoga teachers out there in the world. Now a days, you can get yoga online, in parks, in your own home, on your phone, etc. My advice for hiring a teacher, is to find the right fit. Us teachers are like shoes. We come in all shapes and sizes. You might have to sift through a few different ones, to find the perfect fit. We all offer something unique and we each come with our own perspectives of what yoga is. There is no right or wrong to yoga, so how can there be good teachers and bad teachers? My advice to you, is to try them all until you come across the right one for YOU.

My most recent workshop was a blast! It was a "Vino & Vinyasa" themed two-hour workshop that featured an all levels vinyasa class combined with wine tasting. It was a fun event for a corporate group and we even have t-shirts made; "Namaste at Happy Hour". I'd love to host another fun event like this one! It was great to unite the group through yoga and then continue the bond through wine and food. :)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I reccomend the following inquiries for new students:

1. What do you hope to accomplish from starting or furthering your yoga practice?

2. How can you prepare yourself physically and mentally before each of your lessons?

3. Consistency creates connection and progression. What can you do to maintain a consistent practice?

4. Communicate any past and/or current injuries and traumas. This is important to modify postures and maintain a safe and efficient practice.
