About Emily
My teaching is rooted in a strong foundation of anatomy and biomechanics, and is informed by Ayurveda and neurobioloby. In 2008 I completed my first teacher training, and in 2010 I traveled to India where I met my first yoga therapy teacher, Swami Tureyananda, and studied under his close guidance for 2 months in the mountains of Kodaikanal. I found my way to Portland, OR after returning from India, and four years later I graduated from a yoga therapy program with Sarahjoy Marsh, and earned my ERYT-500 hr. certification through Yoga Alliance as well as my C-IAYT through the International Association of Yoga Therapists.
One-on-one lessons provide the opportunity to work in greater depth with the healing modalities of yoga. In each lesson I incorporate postures, breathing exercises, and mindfulness tools, customized to YOU and your health goals. Each lesson includes a detailed write up (and may include images and recordings) of what we discussed, what we learned, and your yoga therapy homework. You are not alone on your healing path! Between our lessons I am available for continued email support.
In addition to our work together, you may give me written permission to speak to your doctor, physical therapist, or other health care provider, and as a team we can all create a plan to help you thrive in your life.

After 2500 hours of training and over 7000 hours of teaching, traveling the world, loving and losing love, getting up and falling down again, I am continually amazed and humbled by this practice. The vast healing I have personally experienced, and witnessed in my students, continues to guide me deeper into my practice, and it’s here that I learn how to be the best teacher I can be.
I am passionate about creating a safe and nurturing place for students to learn about themselves, connect, heal and thrive.
I'm a certified Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists and through Yoga Alliance for 500 hours as well. Every year I attend yoga therapy trainings.

About the lesson

Before the first one-on-one lesson, the student fills out an online intake form so I have an idea of what they want to focus on and a little about their history. When we meet I ask more specific questions and do some assessments. Then I guide them through some practice which may include breathing exercises, mindfulness tools and postures. Their lesson ends with savasana, in support of integrating all that they have learned and practiced.

Details
The initial yoga therapy lesson is 75 minutes and costs $90, and the follow-up lessons are 60 minutes and costs $70. Discounted packages are available as well.
