About Alyssa
Alyssa received her 200 hour certification from The Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in July of 2017. Since then, she has gone on to get certified in both Yin and Restorative yoga in 2019 and 2020. She has also traveled to India and Thailand, studying both yoga and Buddhist meditation. She has over 300 hours of yoga training, as well as 8 weeks of Buddhist meditation retreats. She works full time as a mental health therapist.
I got started teaching right after I completed my certification. I have been teaching for over 5 years now in public and private settings.
I have over 300 hours of training. This includes:
200 hour hatha yoga training, Kripalu Yoga School.
100 hour restorative yoga training
Yoga for depression training with Amy Weintraub
15 hour yin yoga training
Mind Body meditation certified

In working with a new student, we will discuss the goal they want to accomplish. Each student aspires something different from their yoga practice. We will go over the intention of the student's practice and if the student also has any limitations or injuries.
I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. I have worked with teenagers and college students, and I have also worked with people in their 70s/80s wanting to have a very gentle and restorative yoga practice. I have worked with men and women who are healing from injuries and know how to properly adjust my classes to fit my students needs. I have also taught yoga in eating disorder facilities and am trained to teach to those battling anxiety, depression, and complex trauma.
I would tell the student to make sure the teacher is a good fit for them. I would advise them to make sure the teacher also has proper certifications. The teacher should be able to fit whatever this student is hoping to get out of a lesson.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think if teachers would be able to work with whatever the student needs. They should think through questions like whether the teacher will be willing to accomodate to various needs the students has and whether they are experienced enough to do so.

I am an older student (87 years old). I was hesitant taking a yoga class, yet Alyssa took it so slow and was patient with me. She offered perfect modifications and focused on breathing work throughout the practice to help me get more in touch with my mind and body. I would definitely take a class with her again!
Alyssa provided a loving and gentle approach to teaching yoga. She made sure that my needs were met in the class and always reminded me to check in with my body throughout the session. She helped me get into my body throughout the practice and the class felt effortless.
