About Ogtay
I am Ogtay Hasanov, a FIDE Arena International Master with an over-the-board FIDE rating of 1807 and a peak online rating above 2500.
I especially enjoy helping beginners and intermediate players understand the ideas behind their moves rather than simply memorizing variations. My coaching style is patient, structured, and adapted to each student’s goals and learning pace. Alongside chess, I am completing a master’s degree in computer science, which strongly influences my analytical and systematic approach to teaching. Lessons are available in English and Azerbaijani.

My lessons are designed for beginner and intermediate players of all ages. In the first session, I assess your current level, goals, and recent games, then create a personalized improvement plan.
Rather than focusing only on memorizing openings, I teach you how to think during a game: identify candidate moves, calculate variations, recognize tactical patterns, create effective plans, and manage your time. Lessons may include game analysis, tactics, positional play, opening principles, essential endgames, and tournament preparation.
Each session is interactive and practical, using a shared online chessboard and positions from your own games. You will also receive clear feedback and targeted exercises to work on between lessons.
