I believe in the motto: "Learn by doing"--the more hands-on/student-centered activities there will be, the better the student will remember the new concept. I will always make sure the students are engaged, having a lot of fun, and importantly, feeling supported throughout the process.
My typical lesson plan would go like this:
(e.g. Lesson Plan for a Grammar Lesson that has a Question and Answer)
1. Introducing the new concept to students:
-use VARG (Visuals--> flashcards, Actions--> body language,
Rhythm--> chanting, and Grasp--> students remember concept
2. Teacher-Centered Activity ("We do."):
-Drill + Say: the answer
-Introduce the question and have students respond with the
answer
-Take turns with question + answer (Teacher asks and students
answers and vice versa).
-Grammar Activity: Play rock, paper, scissors with student and if
they lose, they have to answer.
3. Student-Centered Activity ("You do."):
-Grammar Activity: Tic-tac-toe in pairs (if applicable) have
students ask each other the questions and answers (in the tic-
tac-toe chart, each grid will have an answer and it's up to the
students which grid they want to pick).
4. Wrap-up:
-congratulate them for remembering new concept
-give awards (stickers) to students.
