About Donn
I hold a Master’s degree in Film and Media Studies from Arizona State University and have over 25 years of experience in media, education, and audio production. My career spans film, television, podcasting, and audiobooks, giving me a strong foundation in storytelling, communication, and critical thinking. As a tutor, I bring that experience into every session. I help students sharpen their reading and writing by focusing on clarity, structure, and meaning; skills that apply whether you’re writing an essay or analyzing a film. I’ve worked with college students, adult learners, and returning students who want focused, supportive guidance. My approach is student-centered and built on clarity, structure, and relevance. I work with college students, adult learners, and advanced high school students who want to enhance their academic reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
Each session is tailored to your goals. We might break down a complex reading, refine an essay draft, or work through media analysis for a research paper. I guide students in organizing their thoughts, building strong arguments, and writing with purpose. I also assist with citation styles, such as MLA and APA.
My background in Film and Media Studies gives me a unique edge. I use film and storytelling examples to explain abstract ideas, making them easier to grasp and apply. I believe in teaching literacy beyond the page: how we read images, media, and culture matters just as much as how we read books.
