About Jessica
My name is Jess, I have a BA Hons degree in English from Exeter and I am currently studying for a Masters in Literary Studies, specialising in the Renaissance period. I particularly love the supernatural in literature, such as witchcraft in Macbeth or the fantastical world of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I achieved an A* in English A level, as well as A* in History and an A in Art. I have a broad knowledge of historical contexts that is useful when analysing a text, and enjoy taking creative approaches to literature.
From my own experience I understand how important having an enthusiastic, welcoming and encouraging teacher can be, and hope to provide this for my students.

The lessons would be anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours, and will be adapted to suit the individual student’s needs. I will work with the student to figure out which learning style best suits them.
Content covered can include:
- Exam preparation (GCSEs, A Levels, entrance exams), including past papers, exam techniques and revision help
- General literacy help - spelling, grammar
- Essay writing and analysis skills
- Creative writing lessons - techniques, devices, story building
- Specific literature sessions - any modern or classic texts, teaching on context, themes and analysis
I can also provide help with speaking exams and confidence, including participating in lessons. These are issues I experienced in school and understand first hand how important confidence is in both exams and participating within studying English.
