About Janice
Hi I'm Janice! I am a motivated, high achieving student who just sat my GCSE exams. I have a fresh, firsthand understanding of the current curriculum, the pressure of exam season, and exactly what it takes to succeed. I am heading into Year 12 to study Biology, Chemistry, Maths, and possibly Psychology/Further Maths, and I would like to use my experience/knowledge support younger students in their studies!
Why I Am Tutoring
During my own GCSE journey, I realised that school teachers often don't have the time to explain concepts in ways that click for every individual student. I frequently found myself creating simplified study guides, flashcards and shortcuts to help both myself and my classmates master difficult topics. I want to use these exact tools to help other students clear up their confusion, build their academic confidence, and realise that no subject is "too hard" when broken down correctly.
My mentality:
I am patient, highly organised and deeply empathetic to the stress that secondary school students face. Because I am close in age to my students, I can communicate like a peer rather than a rigid authority figure. This creates a relaxed, judgement free environment where students feel comfortable admitting when they are stuck, leading to faster progress and better results.

My Teaching Approach:
As a student who has just successfully navigated the intense pressure of GCSEs, I know exactly what it takes to achieve top marks under the current curriculum. I do not teach using rigid, boring lectures. Instead, I focus on breaking down complex topics into simple steps and teaching the exact exam techniques that examiners look for. I offer a supportive, high energy and judgement free space where no question is a "silly" question, acting as more like your 'study buddy' rather than a teacher.
What a Typical Lesson Looks Like:
Every session is tailored to the student’s specific needs, but generally follows this successful 60-minute framework (can be refined/changed)
00-10 mins: Quick interactive quiz to test active recall on last week's topic
10-35 mins: Breaking down a new, difficult concept using visual notes and collaborative whiteboards
35-55 mins: Live exam practice focusing on command words, mark schemes, and time management
55-60 mins: Review, homework assignment, and setting a clear goal for the next lesson
