About Emily
I am very passionate about languages and their importance in fostering better cultural awareness and facilitating cultural exchange.
In the UK, we are not known for our language learning, so I love the idea of helping to improve the confidence of students who have already gone against this national stereotype and chosen to study a language at GCSE!
I have always loved languages and been interested in learning about grammar, etymology and the cultural peculiarities which inform the languages we speak. I understand, however, that these are not always immediately inspiring or engaging for some and hope that my enthusiasm can help to shed some light on how exciting language learning can be!

For GCSE students, sessions are tailored to each individual's needs, but I believe that speaking in the target language for as much of the session as possible is always really beneficial.
I would usually start sessions warming up with simple conversation, and then move onto practising GCSE oral exam questions, correcting and discussing any issues that come up as we go along. Explanations of more complicated grammar issues can be made in Spanish or in English, depending on the level or how comfortable the student feels with this. As a non-native Spanish speaker, I understand how challenging it can be to fully grasp certain grammatical points earlier on in your language-learning; I hope to help bridge this gap having gone through this process myself.
A typical session would last 1 hour, usually weekly, and I offer a first 30-minute session for free, to see if we are a good fit!
I have a first-class degree in Spanish, French and Portuguese from Bristol University and I achieved A*'s in my GCSEs and A-levels in Spanish and French (having started learning Portuguese at University).
