About Lucy
Hi, I’m Lucy and I’m studying English at Cambridge in October.
GCSE English nearly inspired me to drop it and study Physics. I found it so limiting and confusing and had to teach myself from the ground up (with the help of some great teachers and tutors). The scary thing was always that there’s no “correct” answer. It’s all about communicating your impressions as effectively as you can. You have the freedom to interpret texts how you see them - I’m here to help you convince the examiners.

My 1-hour lessons will focus on practical advice for GCSE English (both Language and Literature) revision and exams, balanced with the curiosity, inquiry and discussion necessary to really succeed in this subject. I’m happy to teach students aged 14-16, but you’re welcome if you’re studying the subject at any age.
Our initial lesson will give me an idea of which areas you most want to work on. These could be techniques, such as essay planning; quote banks and the folded-page method, or texts that you might not be enjoying or engaging with. Lesson plans will be personalised to you and your interests.
