but quite contrary to popular opinion, all of those are learned skills. Just Like most things in life.
It's a lie that people are born with extraordinary abilities. It's a self-fullfiling lie. It's not just a metaphor that you can be anything and reach all your goals. It's a sobering statistics.

I don't believe in hard work. It's a false heuristic that bears no relationship to empirical research.
I take the approach of incentivising students to have intrinsic motivation and fall in love with learning.
One way I do that is by presenting to them the reward for what they do.
It's unrealistic to expect students to master a subject over night.
but with consistent and calculated and educated choices, they can reach goals they couldn't imagine in the first place.
