About Alex
Hi! My name is Alex Hicks. I’m 32 years old and have been deeply involved in music for 21+ years; both live and in the studio.
I'm a former Warner Music artist, and currently sponsored by DR Strings. I've played hundreds of shows, across many cross-Canada tours, large festivals, live TV performances, etc. And have had multiple successful songs on the radio.
My bands have played shows/tours with Arkells, Jimmy Eat World, The Glorious Sons, The Beaches, Dear Rouge, Sam Roberts, Matt Mays & many, many more.

What I teach:
I focus on making guitar fun, practical, and approachable - especially for younger players.
We start learning to play your favourite songs Day 1.
* Rock, metal, indie, country, folk, & more
* How to actually play songs, not just theory
* Learning by ear
* Learning to read and write guitar tabs
* Basic technique, rhythm, chords, and confidence
* Building real playing skills from day one
* Changing guitar strings, guitar maintenance, etc.
I do not focus on sheet music or classical-style instruction—the goal is to get students playing music they actually enjoy as quickly as possible.

* Various pedals & pedalboards
* Full cabling and setup for practice and jamming
* Basic recording gear
Students are encouraged to bring their own guitar, but I do have instruments available if needed.
If you would like to see the room setup we will be learning in, I can send photos beforehand.
