I have lived in France and follow French politics and culture. I believe in learning a language in a natural way, through conversation and pointing out certain structures and explaining them, not correcting minute grammatical errors. The new proficiency standards call for communication, not perfection!

I often use French texts as a window into French culture; for example, an excerpt from Victor Hugo or Camus for more advanced students, or simple French poetry for a beginner. A lesson plan would involve conversation, noticing grammar, appreciating the flow and beauty of French,, and the like.
