About Adam
I am a fourth year student at the University of York, working towards a master's in psychology. I am skilled and passionate about all areas of mathematics, and my course requires deep understanding of statistics. I am keen to help students improve their maths ability and get their heads round things they struggle with! I achieved high grades at A-level in maths (A*), psychology (A*), and physics (A). I also achieved four grade 9s at GCSE in maths, physics, biology, and chemistry. In my free time I like to play music; I played the bass guitar in a successful band while studying in York for three years. I also enjoy relaxing by doing crochet and embroidery, and by writing about the films I am watching.

When a student is struggling in an area, I like to begin by explaining the most important foundational concepts, stopping to make sure they are understood and that the student is comfortable. I then like to work through the simplest versions of the problem, incorporating the key concepts in a natural progression onto more complex problems when appropriate. My studies in psychology have helped me understand the importance of trying different approaches when teaching, as every student has different preferences and abilities. I am also aware of the importance of patience, and I like to emphasise that no question is too silly to ask! I have mentored younger students in the past, helping me learn how children operate and the ways in which they learn information and develop skills. I have also spent time working with elderly people with dementia, an experience that has helped me develop my communication ability with different demographics.
