About Joey
Hi! I’m a friendly and enthusiastic English tutor from the UK who also speaks Chinese. I want to teach because I know that learning a language can sometimes feel difficult or intimidating, especially when you’re worried about making mistakes. I want to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where students can practise English without feeling embarrassed or pressured.
As someone who can speak both English and Chinese, I can understand students from a Chinese-speaking background and explain things clearly when needed. I particularly enjoy helping students improve their speaking and conversational English, so they can feel more comfortable using English in real-life situations.

I believe learning English should feel comfortable, enjoyable and practical, not stressful. As a bilingual English and Chinese speaker, I understand how helpful it can be to have someone who can explain things clearly and make you feel confident when speaking.
I focus especially on speaking and conversation, helping students improve their pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and confidence through natural conversations about topics they enjoy, such as school, hobbies, music, films, travel and everyday life.
I have previous experience supporting students through voluntary tutoring, and I understand that everyone learns differently. I will adapt each lesson to the student's level, interests and goals, whether they want to become more confident speaking English, improve their everyday communication or simply have regular practice with a fluent English speaker.
For Chinese students, I can also communicate in Chinese when needed, which can make explanations easier and help students feel more comfortable. My aim is for every student to finish each lesson feeling more confident in English than when they started.
