About Andrea
I am university researcher and teacher in Philosophy, and certified Associate Fellow of the Higher Education. During the last six years I have taught at the University of Rome, at the University of Nottingham, and at the University of Exeter. My university teaching expertise is primarily in ancient philosophy, metaphysics, philosophy of mind, epistemology, ethics, history of philosophy, and philosophy of science. I have a long-standing experience in preparing students for their A-level/OCR/IB (Philosophy and Ethics, Religious Studies, Mind and God) and I have been awarded the "“Best Teacher Prize" at the University of Exeter for having provided “outstanding teaching and support to undergraduate students”. The primary aim of my teaching is to enable students to think clearly and for themselves, and I am passionate about helping young minds achieving their potential and building confidence in their capacities.

As a professional academic teacher, my sessions are highly structured and well tested. Yet, tailoring the course to students learning requirements and goals is always the first step in any pedagogical processes. The first session focuses on understanding which goals the student aims to achieve, her background and methodological starting capabilities. This first session is key to the success of the personal tutoring.
Each session is centered on clear and actionable Individual Learning Objectives (ILOs), anticipated before the session together with the suggested reading list. The session divides into three parts. The first is verifies and strengthen understanding of the material. The second develops and improve the critical abilities of the student through high-quality discussion and questioning. Finally, the third focuses on academic and pre-academic writing skills, an essential capability that each student needs to master. Overall, each teaching session aims to offer complete training that allows students to build their knowledge and confidence steadily, progressively and efficiently.
At the end of each session, ILOs are summarized, understanding of the student verified, and the objectives for the successive sessions introduced. Every two weeks I evaluate student's progress, asking to write a small essay concerning topics discussed previously, and discuss strengths and weakness of the work.
