About William
After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a degree in music education, taught junior high school and high school music in Southern California. After that I earned a master's degree from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. Following a summer in Berlin teaching English and music, I began my Ph.D. in music theory at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After my residency there I earned a highly prestigious Fulbright Scholarship to the University of Warsaw in Poland. From 2008-2022 I almost single-handedly wrote the music questions for teacher certification exams that are used throughout the United States, including the National Board Exam.

What sets me apart as a tutor? I've taught and tutored music theory (I-VI), ear training (I-IV), and music fundamentals at 6 colleges and universities in Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Germany. A typical lesson plan would involve a brief recap of the previous lesson followed by a lesson in which students will demonstrate knowledge actively through keyboard skills, singing, and written exercises. The lessons are for music students of all backgrounds, from beginners to graduate students.
