About Fliss
The last 20 years of my career as a swimming instructor have spanned all areas of the industry. As a child I had an accident near water that caused me severe anxiety. Through the care and patience of an excellent swimming teacher called Lorraine, I overcame this fear so much so that i couldn't be kept above the water.
This enthusiasm for being submerged led me to starting synchronised swimming between the ages of 7 and 12 years old. I competed for a while until watching my sisters swimming lessons led me to begin water helping with a local swimming school at 14 years old.
By the time I was 16 and able to take my Level 1 teaching qualification I was running lessons for children from 3 years old up to 10 and with up to 6 swimmers per half hour.
This led me to move onto teaching private one to one lessons for another swimming school where I took my Level 2 teaching qualification to become a full instructor. I gradually took on more responsibility and became assistant manager of this swimming school before finally taking the leap into operations for a national provider.
Here I got a good look at the more corporate side of swimming lesson provision. Over the next decade I came full circle back to my first love - teaching. Seeing what really matters to the individual; the environment, the learning resources and above all - the person guiding you has meant my appreciation and patience for my students is second to none.
I'll be right there holding my swimmers hands, supporting them and cheering them on as they progress - and probably doing the snoopy dance when they achieve them. I can't wait to meet you.

I believe in teaching for the individual. Everyone learns differently and it's my job to figure out what works for you. I currently run my own swimming school called Ripples which uses the Swim England curriculum for kids and a personalized approach for adults and my emphasis is on making each students experience tailored and positive to them.
I hold a full level 2 ASA teaching qualification, NRASTC (rescue), full clean DBS, IoS insurance and have 20 years experience in the industry. Having started as a synchronized swimmer and water helping at 14 years old, by 16 I was teaching lessons on a one to one and group basis.
I've worked with all ages from 11 months old up to 96 years old and prepped people for open water swimming, worked with SEN children, dealt with hydrophobia and introduced swimming for fitness. I'm just as comfortable easing adults into learning to love water as I am being goofy with my little ones.
Dependent on location and age of the swimming I can offer lessons of 30 minutes or 1 hour
