About Anamaria
I have taught as an arts instructor for children and adults, but the majority of my experience is with children. One of my favorite positions has been working as an after school arts and crafts instructor for ages 4-11. I designed lessons for the children based off of famous paintings and well known artists, as well as playful sculptures and free-creative time for a good balance of learning and play. I like to bring an element of artistic therapy into my work, as I believe art is healing and can be a great way for young children to process emotion. I have worked one on one with children in drawing lessons, as well as group lessons. I enjoy one on one lessons the most, as it allows me to really get to know my student and tailor the learning style and pace to fit their unique style. Most of all, I like to create a safe, loving, and judgement free space for everyone. Yes, learning artistic skills can be difficult, but the goal is expression and appreciation, so I like to remind students that it is safe to make mistakes along the road, and I like to keep an intuitive approach when it comes to learning pace. Every young artist is different, and I am here to help guide them and honor the differences in expression!

As an art instructor, my main goal is to make the process imaginative and fun! I draw from several different teaching methods to create my lessons, as well as my own style and process. The main method of drawing I find inspiration from is Ed Emberly's, as I find his simplistic style is wonderful for emerging young artists, and it was my personal intro into the arts as well. A typical lesson will start out with a time to free draw and express feelings visually, in art therapy fashion (note-this is not art therapy, but I like to include this time.) Then , we start with drawing basics, and complete drawing or painting exercises according to age and current skill level! Once we have basics practiced, then we can create pieces. For older children, I like to give more creative freedom to choose drawing
projects, and I will help guide them over the course of a couple lessons to complete them. For example, a self portrait. For younger children, you can expect a small piece of artwork completed at the end of each lesson. For example, a watercolor landscape you can hang up on your fridge! Some lessons will include bits of art history, as I like to base some projects off of famous artist's work- ex, Georgia O'Keefe and her flower paintings have been a fun project for my previous class to recreate. I am very passionate about my own creative practice, so I love igniting that spark in young minds and helping them build a good foundation to carry with them!
