About Amlaan
I am a neuroscience graduate currently studying at Cambridge, with a background in cell biology, cognitive science, and clinical neuroscience. I have studied at Rutgers University and the University of Oxford, and my academic path has focused on understanding how people learn, think, and perform under pressure.
Alongside my studies, I have developed a strong interest in teaching and mentoring. I have experience explaining complex scientific concepts in clear, accessible ways, both in academic settings and one-to-one support. I enjoy helping students move from feeling stuck or overwhelmed to confident and in control of the material.
I am particularly interested in supporting high school and early university students in biology and psychology, especially those preparing for exams or aiming to improve their study methods. My goal is not just to help students get better grades, but to help them build lasting confidence and effective ways of learning that they can carry forward.

I take a structured but flexible approach to tutoring, focusing on building deep understanding rather than memorisation. My lessons are interactive and tailored to each student’s needs, whether that means breaking down difficult concepts step by step, working through practice questions together, or reinforcing exam technique. I emphasise active recall and spaced repetition, drawing on methods I’ve used successfully in my own studies, including preparing for the MCAT and advanced neuroscience coursework.
A typical lesson lasts 60–90 minutes and is adapted to the student’s goals, whether they are preparing for exams, strengthening fundamentals, or aiming for top grades. I begin by identifying areas of weakness, then guide students through targeted practice while encouraging them to explain concepts in their own words. I also provide strategies for independent study so progress continues outside of sessions.
I have a strong academic background in neuroscience, cognitive science, and cell biology, with degrees from Rutgers, Oxford, and Cambridge, and extensive experience working in both research and clinical settings. I am most comfortable teaching high school students and early university students in subjects such as biology, psychology, and general science, as well as offering support for exam preparation and study strategy.
