I am able to teach GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths, as well as teaching A-level Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I am friendly and encouraging and believe that tutoring should be about more than just academic skills and knowledge. I think an essential part of tutoring should be raising a child’s self-confidence. Making sure that they believe that they can do this. During the lesson, I use many strategies and styles to create a stimulating and enjoyable learning experience. I use teaching styles which match the learner’s learning style. I can give techniques and tactics and shortcuts to vital information which would save a lot of time during the exam because the new GCSEs and A-levels are not recalling information anymore it is more of understanding and applying their knowledge, which is the key skill that I have. I always check if my students have understood the topic by providing additional questions which I prepare myself on the spot, making sure they understand the topic first, so, therefore, they can answer the exam questions. As their homework, I would provide them with exam questions at different difficulties. Also, I inform the student's parents after every lesson on how the student is doing.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I decided to start tutoring once I had finished my GCSE exams as I noticed how the teaching from state schools were not sufficient for students to achieve grades they desire. I had a genuine passion for teaching and helping others learn. I enjoy the process of imparting knowledge, guiding students, and witnessing their progress. Private tutoring allows me to have more direct and personalized impact on a student's leaning journey. The satisfaction of seeing my students succeed academically and gain confidence in their abilities is highly rewarding. Making a positive impact on a student's life and witnessing their growth is personally fulfilling.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

My main passion is science and maths as these were the subjects, I personally found more interesting. I like to break biology, chemistry and physics down to my students to make it easier for them to understand. With maths it is really important to be able to identify how the student learns best which allows me to tailor my teaching method to produce a better outcome overall. I focus on content along with questions to solidify their knowledge.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My main role model was my older brother who studied dentistry. He taught me everything I know about science and maths as well as teaching. He was able to provide constructive feedback and invested time to create engaging lessons. He showed a lot of patience and empathy. He was able to understand my learning needs and challenges. He had excellent communication skills .
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A good tutor should have a strong command of the subject they are teaching. This expertise allows them to provide accurate and comprehensive explanations to students.
A good tutor communicates clearly and effectively. They can convey complex ideas in a simplified manner, ensuring that students grasp the information easily. They actively listen to students' questions and concerns, encouraging open dialogue and addressing any misunderstandings promptly.
A good tutor recognizes the importance of continuous learning and professional development. They stay updated with the latest developments in their field, engage in ongoing self-improvement and seek opportunities to enhance their teaching skills.
A good tutor maintains a positive and encouraging attitude towards their students. They believe in their students' capabilities and help build their confidence. They provide constructive feedback, praise efforts, and celebrate success, fostering a supportive and motivating learning environment.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During my A-Levels my maths teacher had a unique approach to teaching. He believed in making math enjoyable and relatable which has a profound impact on my learning experience. We were doing a particularly challenging topic, quadratic equations. Many of us were finding it difficult to understand and apply the complex formula. Instead of bombarding us with more formulas and explanations, he introduced a real-life scenario that required quadratic equation to solve. He explained how these equations can be used to model the trajectory of a basketball shot. He drew diagrams and discussed how variables like force and gravity affected the path of the ball. Through his innovative teaching approach, he did no only help us understand quadratic equations but also instilled in us a deeper appreciation for the subject.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Science often involves abstract concepts and theories that may be difficult for students to visualize or grasp. Concepts like atoms, molecules and forces maybe challenging to understand without tangible examples or hand on experiences. Many scientific disciplines rely on mathematical concepts and calculation. Students may struggle with the application of mathematical formulas and equation in scientific contexts especially if they have difficulties with math itself.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My main passion is to become a surgeon. In terms of teaching is to make a meaningful difference in students lives. I believe in the transformative power of education and strive to empower my students to reach their full potential. I am motivated by the opportunity to inspire and guide my students on their educational journeys.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P) ?

Being able to express my current knowledge to the younger generations.
To keep in contact with my students replying as soon as I can to my students and family members.
Provide feedback to my students to be able to see how they progress over time.
