About Raheem

I'm Raheem, an experienced Maths teacher with five years of teaching experience across secondary and sixth-form education, specialising in GCSE and A Level Mathematics.

I hold a degree in Mathematics from the University of Birmingham, alongside a Master's degree in Teaching, where I developed a particular interest in how students learn Mathematics and how effective teaching strategies can improve their understanding.

Throughout my teaching career, I've worked with students of a wide range of abilities, from those who lack confidence in Maths to high-achieving students aiming for the top grades. This experience has given me a strong understanding of the challenges students face, particularly when it comes to applying their knowledge in exams.

One of the things I enjoy most about teaching is helping students overcome topics they initially find difficult. I believe that with the right guidance, encouragement and teaching approach, students are capable of achieving far more than they might initially think.

My teaching philosophy is centred around building strong mathematical foundations, developing independent problem-solving skills and helping students understand not just how to answer a question, but why a particular method works.

Having taught GCSE and A Level Maths for several years, I'm familiar with the demands of both qualifications, the common misconceptions students encounter and the importance of effective exam preparation.

Above all, I take pride in helping students develop confidence in their mathematical ability and make meaningful progress towards their academic goals.

My approach to tuition is centred around each student's individual needs. I believe that every student learns differently, which is why I offer a structured, personalised learning programme designed around their current ability, areas for improvement and target grade.

**Initial Diagnostic Assessment**

Every student begins with a diagnostic assessment to establish their starting point, identify gaps in their knowledge and highlight any misconceptions. This allows me to develop a tailored learning programme with clear targets and priorities from the outset.

**Personalised Learning Programme**

Following the initial assessment, I create an individual learning plan focusing on the topics and skills each student needs to develop. Lessons combine clear explanations, worked examples, targeted practice and exam-style questions, with an emphasis on developing a deeper understanding of Mathematics rather than simply memorising methods.

**Regular Assessments and Progress Tracking**

Students complete regular assessments throughout the programme to monitor their progress and identify areas that require further attention. This allows me to adapt lessons accordingly and ensure that students are consistently working towards their target grades. Progress can also be shared with parents, providing a clear picture of how their child is developing.

**Homework and Individualised Feedback**

Regular homework is set to consolidate learning between sessions and encourage independent practice. Students receive personalised feedback highlighting what they've done well, where they've lost marks and, most importantly, how they can improve. Common mistakes and misconceptions are then addressed in subsequent lessons.

**Exam Technique and Problem-Solving**

From my teaching experience, I've found that students often understand mathematical concepts but struggle to apply their knowledge to unfamiliar exam questions. I place particular emphasis on bridging this gap through targeted past-paper practice, developing problem-solving strategies and helping students understand what examiners are looking for.

I offer one-to-one tuition for GCSE and A Level Maths students of all abilities, whether they're looking to strengthen their foundations, improve their confidence, secure a particular grade or push themselves towards the highest grades.
