About Yurun
Yurun Song is a composer, conductor, and music educator based in Sydney, Australia. Born in Xi’an, China, he holds a Bachelor of Music (Composition) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, University of Sydney. He studied composition with Amanda Cole, Carl Vine, Luis Sagile, Natalie Williams, and Peggy Polias, and received formal training in conducting and ensemble leadership from Elizabeth Scott and Stephen Williams. A published composer with Universal Edition, Yurun writes for large ensembles, orchestras, and multimedia projects. His works have been performed by ensembles including the Sydney Youth Orchestra, Sydney Chinese Orchestra, and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Chinese Music Ensemble. In 2025, he was awarded the Platinum Award in the Brahms International Online Music Competition, the highest compositional distinction presented that year. Alongside his compositional practice, Yurun is active in ensemble direction and music education, working with student and community ensembles. His interests include orchestration, instrumentation-informed programming, and repertoire adaptation, with an emphasis on creating engaging and accessible performances for diverse audiences. His work reflects a commitment to artistic excellence, cross-cultural musical dialogue, and the development of emerging musicians.

I use a combination of structured theory exercises and creative composition tasks to help students explore music deeply. Lessons typically last 60 minutes. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Sydney and have four years of experience teaching AMEB and ABRSM theory, composition, and piano. My lessons are designed for students aged 15 and above, at an intermediate to advanced level, who want to deepen their understanding and develop their own musical voice.
