About Gvin
I consider myself both an Artist and teacher equally. I believe all Artists are teachers. I love getting the most of out people and being able to do that through art is the reason I teach.
The thing I love about teaching art is that it is not prescriptive or formulaic. It is entirely personal and bespoke. Sometimes I have students who want to learn how to “draw and paint realistically” which gives us a focus on skills and often figurative representation through various media which creates a focus on the HOW. Other times I have students who want to create unique artwork with messages and societal commentary, which allows us to focus more on the WHY.

I’m an experienced Head of Art in a secondary school with a consistent record of getting the best out of young artists. My results have consistently been in the top 10% in the country with recent years being a progress score of above +2.0 (amongst the best in the country)
Teaching Art and Design is my passion and although my specialism is Painting and Drawing, I also have a wider knowledge of digital design and illustration which can teach to GCSE and A Level.
I’m an exam board moderator for Art and Design which gives me expert knowledge of assessment objectives and preparation for portfolio submissions, as well as accurate assessment.
My teaching and tutoring style is personal and bespoke, believing that each Artist has something to say that is uniquely their own and my goal is the guide that journey of expression, focussing on developing high level of skills and creative realisation of ideas.
My tutoring style is flexible and although I prefer in person tutoring, I can also offer online lessons.
My lessons are always focussed on what the individual needs as creative subjects need to be fully bespoke. Whether it be skills, of which I’m highly proficient in drawing and painting whether it be expressive or hyperrealism, or unlocking creative ideas and process, I am confident I can find the approach that you require.
