Find out a little bit about each student and their interests in music and what they would like to achieve before going into it.
I have a basic method from youngsters, to have fun playing along to drumless songs, their favourite ones.
Then go to basics-technique, handgrip, height of stool etc, and get him to get a drum pad, so he can practise his exercises off the kit/
Another method is an older drummer who may have picked it up years ago and decided to go back and I see if he can keep time playing along to his fave tunes, then get down to details.
WARNING - Drums are the best instrument to play and the worst to carry around.
