About Vivian
My name is Vivian Altsher-Wood, I am a graduate from the jazz program at SUNY Purchase. During my time at Purchase, I have had the privilege to study under some of the most prolific jazz musicians of our era. I am an experienced educator, and have taught students of all ages and skill levels, from preschool to adult! Although my major was jazz, I’m no snob— I can teach or play in any genre, from classical to rock to pop! The instruments I offer to teach ate piano, saxophone, flute and clarinet!

My mission is to foster a genuine love for music for all of my students. Each student will have a curated curriculum based around whatever kind of music they like to listen to or would like to learn! Musical concepts (such as reading sheet music, articulations, etc.) will be taught through a combination of a few books that I’m partial towards and songs of the student’s choice! We will also go over practicing techniques to ensure that the student will build a relationship with music without feeling too overwhelmed! My other mission is to break the stereotype of a strict private lesson teacher. :)
