I’ve found that when my students believe that their success and well being are important to me, everyone benefits. To this end, words can only go so far. It’s what I do each day that matters: Am I listening to them? Am I connecting the material to their lives and goals? Am I helping them to establish what those goals are? Do my delivery and classroom promote their learning and success? Am I fair? Do I treat them as I would want a teacher to treat my own child (or to have treated me)?
